Sodium Metabisulphite is an inorganic compound which is widely used as a disinfectant, antioxidant, and a preservative agent. They are available in fine granular powdered form with a super white colour. These chemicals are prepared by treating the solution of sodium hydroxide with sulphur dioxide in warm water which gives a precipitate and on cooling converted into solid crystals. Sodium Metabisulphite are toxic on exposure which may cause irritation to the skin, eyes, and respiratory tract. These can also be used in pharmaceutical industries for the formulation of antioxidant agents and for the testing of the sickle cell diseases.
